Travel Demand for a New Infrastructure: Santo Domingo Road Bridge

In this project we estimated travel demand via a discrete model, which also provided the value of time (VoT), elasticities, and probabilities of the sample. We designed the survey process, sample size and questionnaire. Representativeness of the sample regarding the Santo Domingo Population has been analyzed, and weights were calculated. The modeling part also included both network modeling and stated choice experiments. We aimed to match the forecast of the choice modeling with the network modeling. Our results successfully show that both methods coherently predict the travel demand for the new infrastructure.

Travel Demand and Feasibility Analysis: Maimon – Piedra Blanca.

In this project, the consultant developed a traffic analysis for the new road Piedra Blanca – El Copey, Dominican Republic, which includes: (1). Level of Service: A level of service analysis was conducted for the highway within the project boundary. Capacity and density have been analyzed after collecting traffic counts. (2). Stated Choice Surveys: For the data collection process, the consultant has designed the survey questionnaire and sample size. A total of 500 surveys were collected, presenting at least 8 cards to each respondent in the stated preferences experiment. (3) Discrete Choice Model: a discrete choice model was developed to determine the time value of current and future users of the highway project. Demand of the new road was estimated based on model simulations. (4) Traffic Safety Analysis: this part was developed based on the Highway Safety Manual (HSM) – to determine the reduction of accidents obtained from the implementation of the new road segment.

Toll Plazas

This project was about  evaluating the traffic projections of 11 toll plazas in the Dominican Republic. Historical measurements of traffic volumes corresponding to the years 2006-2021 have been received.

The following recommendations are extended:

– Make projections based on history.

– Make projections using optimistic and pessimistic cases.

– Use growth factors based on time series.

– Review the statistical validity of the projections using parameters such as MASE (mean absolute

scaled error).

– Make short-term projections since the validity of the projections is statistically weakened by increase the temporal space of the projection.  Additionally, stations that have more fluctuating values ​​give us statistically less robust predictions.

This project describes the steps taken to determine the orientation of the runway (landing strip) located in the Sanchez Ramírez Province, for a Cessna Caravan 208 design aircraft, with a minimum takeoff distance of 762m) under visual flight rules. (VFR).

Ring Road Santo Domingo

The project comprised an analysis of Value of Time for a new ring road and potential toll facility that will save substantial travel time and internal traffic of Santo Domingo city. A mixed logit model with panel effects was developed to estimate value of time per transport mode. Furthermore, socioeconomic characteristics were considered in the model specification.
